Students use these wooden orangutan figures with movable arms and legs to build a tree nest replica during the Orangutans and Deforestation Unit. The orangutans come in a flat wooden sheet that is put together like a puzzle. Students then paint their wooden orangutans to make them look like they do in their native habitat, the rainforests of the Southeast Asian islands of Borneo and Sumatra. Since orangutans spend nearly their entire lives in trees, students will add their orangutans to tree nests that they make using outdoor materials and other items they gather themselves. (1 per student)
